šŸ”® Predictions for Journalism in 2025

Nieman Lab recently asked a panel of experts for their predictions for journalism and media in the upcoming year. The responses varied from podcasting being taken seriously, local media getting its ā€˜swaggerā€™ back, and (of course) plenty of predictions about AI.

šŸŒŽ Environmental Journalism Nonprofit Secures $800K in Funding for Local Coverage

Inside Climate News, the oldest dedicated climate and environment newsroom in the nation, has secured $800,000 to expand its environmental reporting at the state and local level across the country. The grant money will be used to hire reporters in NYC and Texas, as well as add muscle to the organizationā€™s ICN Local program.

šŸ’ø $100,000 in awards for news reporting up for grabs

The Center for Integrity in News Reporting is accepting entries for its annual news reporting awards. The awards will give $25,000 to winners of each of the four categories: print reporting, broadcast reporting, TV reporting and digital reporting. The deadline for the contest is January 25th, 2025. Submissions to the contest can be made here.

āš  More layoffs in Oregon

Mississippi based media chain Carpenter Media Group has announced more job cuts at outlets in Oregon that were acquired by the company earlier this year. This is not the first round of job cuts by CMG, which recently acquired dozens of newspapers in the northwest.
